During the Sabar Mela 2025, on 30.11.2025, with the help of Deben Mahato Government Medical College and Hospital, Purulia and the Association of Voluntary Blood Donors West Bengal, a Blood Donation Camp organised marked a historic and transformative moment in the social and health awareness journey of the Sabar community. Traditionally, the Sabar is such a community which had lived with deep fear and misconceptions related to blood. In a village of Bandwan block, it has been observed that community members hesitate to give blood even for basic medical tests when someone falls ill. This fear is the result of lack of knowledge about medical procedures, uncertainty about how much blood is required for simple tests.
Against this background, the sight of 28 Sabar men and youth voluntarily coming forward to donate blood at the Sabar Mela stands as a powerful symbol of change. During the Sabar Mela, the community not only participated in cultural programmes but also actively engaged in this humanitarian initiative with confidence. For the first time, the Sabar people understood the value of blood as a life-saving resource and realised that donating blood does not weaken the body but instead strengthens society.
The District Authority, including the MSVP, and the Authority of Association of Voluntary Blood Donors West Bengal highly appreciated this historic initiative and acknowledged the courage and social responsibility shown by the Sabar community as well as PBKSKS. The Blood Donation Camp at Sabar Mela 2025 will be remembered as a turning point, where a community once afraid of giving blood for tests proudly donated blood to save unknown lives.
